The Ultimate Après Ski Guide for Park City, Utah

The Ultimate Après Ski Guide for Park City, Utah

Some of my best memories were made after a wonderful day of skiing with friends and/or family. Of course, the skiing itself brings great memories, especially when you are skiing “the best snow on earth” in Park City, Utah.  It’s tough to top a day of making your best turns on fresh snow and walking into a cozy mountainside spot to cheers with an ice-cold beer or a warm hot toddy. Avid skiers Sean Railton and Ali North of Homes Park City have put together the ultimate Après ski guide for Park City, Utah.

Après ski is a big part of the skiing tradition. Originating in the 1950’s when commercial skiing became popular in Norway, skiers would end there day with alcohol-fueled fun and dancing to celebrate a wonderful day. The trend quickly spread across all of Europe and when the party came to France, they gave it the name Après ski, which mean “after ski”.

Après ski can have many different meanings depending on your and style and your definition of fun. Après ski in Park City can be enjoyed in many local spots that celebrate in different ways. Here are a few of Sean and Ali's favorite après ski spots along with a few others that might fit your mountain lifestyle.

Après Ski at Deer Valley Resort in Park City

It’s difficult to beat a mountainside drink with the views that Deer Valley has to offer. Let me introduce you to The Montage’s Après Lounge & Beach Club located at Deer Valley Resort. Situated on the ski beach at the bottom of Ruby and Empire Express ski lifts sits the Veuve Clicquot yurt, serving its visitors hand-crafted cocktails you won’t find anywhere else. This après experience can transport you straight to France after sipping and snacking on the well thought out menu. The yurt welcomes its guests with a rustic yet warm atmosphere which makes it easy to make yourself at home.

Another fun après experience at Deer Valley is the daily champagne sabering at Deer Valley’s St. Regis hotel. Take the funicular up to the mountain terrace and enjoy a free glass of champagne every evening at 5:30pm. An experienced bartender will tell you the roots of sabering and will strike a bottle with a sharp knife and then pour a glass of champagne for the whole terrace. This small celebration brings in the crowd and should be experienced by all (21 and older of course) at least once while visiting Park City.

Après Ski at the Canyons Village In Park City

The Umbrella Bar is a local’s favorite, especially on those sunny spring days! At this fun après ski spot you’ll always find live local music playing, fire pits roaring and the best crowd proudly boasting their goggle tans. It isn’t rare to see a ski boot dance party on the patio as you can easily ski right into the venue. Open daily from 11:30am - 6pm and this is a 21 and older bar.

If you are looking for an après that offers great food and beer head on over to Draft’s Burger Bar. This popular spot serves up the best gourmet burgers, stone baked pizza, and spicy hot wings The Canyons Village has to offer. Draft’s Burger Bar also serves an impressive selection of microbrews, hand crafted cocktails, and a wine list with wine from around the world.

Après Ski at Park City Mountain Resort

The Corner Store is a well-known après ski spot that has been serving up the local buzz for over 30 years. Offering a full bar with an outdoor patio and live music six days a week (except Tuesdays). A bonus to this après spot is that it is family friendly! Grab the kids a slice of pizza or some delicious burgers while you enjoy a nice cold beverage while jamming out to some local tunes.

Après Ski in Old Town, Park City on Historic Main Street

Historic Main Street in Old Town, Park City offers a wide variety of restaurants and bars to choose from. A local favorite is aptly named No Name Saloon. No Name Saloon has always been a staple on Main Street and you may even run int a few celebrities depending on the time of year you visit. With two levels to this bar and a heated rooftop patio, you can spread out and have a great time. The rooftop patio provides awesome views of historic Main Street. If you are lucky to snag a spot on the rooftop patio on a sunny day, you can watch visitors as the mingle and shop around in the unique boutique shops below while breathing in the fresh mountain air. This is a 21 and older bar that serves food and drink daily from 11am-1am. This famous bar is known for their buffalo burger, but if you aren’t into a burger, you can still get the bison meat on their nachos. You won’t go hungry or thirsty at No Name Saloon for Après ski.

If you are feeling frisky and need some whiskey, there are two must stop bars and restaurants that make the locals proud. The Spur Bar & Grill serves up their own Spur whiskey and local spirits while proudly entertaining their patrons with live music every night! Try their Bootlegging cocktail made with Alpine Spur Whiskey, carpano antica vermouth, orange bitters, with an amarena cherry on ice.

Next on the stop, but this doesn’t mean it comes in second, is High West Distillery. Serving “whiskey from the west” seven days a week, this saloon style bar is 21 and older only. One of my favorites is the Bourye Whisky, which is a rare mix of bourbon and rye whisky offering a taste of fruit, caramel, and mountain herbs. This historic Park City based company also offers distillery tours for groups to come see the distillery process and to taste some of their best whiskeys. Reservations are strongly encouraged.

Another favorite Park City Gem is Old Town Cellars. This place proudly boasts the official wine of Après ski in Park City, this private label winery serves up a significant wine list with small bites in a lounge atmosphere. The local owners have crafted their company to be a beautiful mix of the outdoor lifestyle and sustainability practices while bringing great wine to their mountain community.

Après Ski at Kimball Junction

If you are heading out of Park City or looking to enjoy the amenities on the outskirts of town, you will not want to miss a stop at Red Rock Brewing at The Redstone Center. Red Rock Brewery is a Salt Lake local favorite serving some of the most creative brews in the country. A few favorites are the Eliphino and The Imperial Red Ale, their 20th anniversary label. This is a family fun atmosphere with amazing food, so all ages are welcomed. We highly recommend the steak sandwich and the wings.
